ABOUT BLUE RIDGE LITERACY COUNCIL

Mission

Blue Ridge Literacy Council (BRLC) is dedicated to transforming lives through improved literacy and English communication skills for adult learners.

We closed our 2017 - 2018 Program Year serving over 300 individuals!

In the 2017/2018 Fiscal Year:

  • Family Literacy impacted 40 families
  • 100 Detainees received life and literacy skills at the Henderson County Detention Center
  • 163 adult learners were served by 134 volunteers who donated 12,724 hours equal to $314,156 or 6 full-time staff members
  • 98% of tutored students achieved one or more of their educational goals
  • 60% of tutored students increased their literacy skills according to evidence-based testing
  • 17 students achieved a post-secondary credential
  • 10 students obtained Citizenship

We also promote diversity within our Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers.
